The main topic of our project is sustainability – a current topic not only in European but also non-European countries. The reason why we decided to implement this particular project was that we all need to start paying more attention to the topic of climate change, saving resources, reducing energy consumption, choosing sustainable food, building critical thinking and civic competences in communities. Since the same situation is also in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, in order to mitigate these differences, on November 1, 2022, the Ján Palárik Primary School in Majcichov, in cooperation with a Slovak publishing house, three renowned universities and primary schools in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, started implementing the international project Innovative STEPS – Innovative Education in Sustainability for Prosperous Schools. The project focused primarily on supporting lower secondary education teachers in the field of sustainability.

Our primary goal was to equip teachers with skills on how to implement SUSTAINABILITY EDUCATION in their classes, develop the competences of teachers and students in various sectors related to sustainability, enrich cross-curricular education at lower secondary level, learn to manage information effectively, support their physical and emotional well-being, and create civic competences and critical thinking.

The main project outputs have been successfully created and tested, published in 4 languages (SK, CZ, ENG, BG) and made freely available to the public on the project website. We hope that the website will be useful and entertaining for all users after the project is over.

Outputs:

  • Training program for teachers, which focuses on the didactic side
  • Materials for students on topics of environmental education and healthy lifestyle
  • Methodology for teachers – how to implement these topics in education

We have created an open educational resource – an online platform that will allow teachers and institutions learn online and interactively. We included 150 lower secondary students, 15 teachers and 2,500 key stakeholders in the program, strengthening their personal, social, pedagogical and civic competences and contributing to building a sustainability mindset.

We solemnly concluded our project at the final multiplication event – the conference “Teacher is Not Google” in Bratislava, with 150 participants and speakers from abroad.

After the conference, we launched the project at the stage of L+S Theater.

We would like to thank all the project partners, it was an honor!
